Abstract
444,710. Speed governors. HERCULES MOTORS CORPORATION, 201, 11th Street, Southeast, Canton, Ohio, U.S.A. Oct. 20, 1934, No. 30134. Convention date, July 3. [Class 57] A speed governor device for an internalcombustion engine comprises a centrifugal governor driven through gearing 28, 33 from the shaft 12 of the fuel injection pump and consists in weights 36 integral with arms having projections 38 engaging a sleeve 41 and projections 39 engaging a boss to limit the outward movement of the weights. A collar 43 is mounted on the sleeve 41 and pins on a ring-shaped lever 48 engage a groove 52 in the collar. The lever 48 surrounds the shaft 29 and is pivoted on an eccentric 45 which may turn about an axis 99. An upper corner of the lever 48 is connected by a link 55, adjustable in length, to a rod 20 which controls the output of the fuel injection pump. The lever 48 is loaded by an adjustable spring 70 which controls the idling speed. Secured to the governor casing is a housing 78 containing a spring 94 which abuts a disc 91 having a flange 92 engaging a flange 74 on the housing. The other end of the spring 94 abuts a member 86 which has tongues 86-1 engaging grooves 77-1 on the housing. The member 86 has a threaded extension 83 co-operating with a sleeve 81 which has teeth upon its circumference so that it may be rotated by a worm 89 to adjust the spring 94. The eccentric is journalled in the governor casing and has a sleeve mounted at one end provided with teeth engaged by a worm secured in the lever 68-2 so that the lever may be adjusted relatively to the eccentric. When the engine is under load the collar 43 engages the disc 91 and movement of the lever 68-2 causes through lever 48 movement of the rod 20. When the speed increases above a predetermined limit the governor overcomes the spring 94 to reduce the fuel. In a modification the spring 94 engages an abutment resting against a collar 134 on the housing and a second weaker spring is arranged between this abutment and the disc 91. Mounted on the other end of the eccentric is a member 119 which is adjustable relatively to the eccentric by a worm 121. The member 119 carries a projection 124 engaged by a detent 125 which limits the movement of the eccentric to reduce the fuel to maintain idle running. To stop the engine the detent is lifted when the eccentric may be moved farther to stop the fuel delivery. Specification 392,345 is referred to.
