450,532. Speed governors. HERCULES MOTORS CORPORATION, 201, 11th Street Southeast, Canton, Ohio, U.S.A. Oct. 20, 1934, No. 30133. Convention date, Oct. 20, 1933. [Class 57] A speed-governing mechanism for an internalcombustion engine comprises a centrifugal governor driven through gearing 28, 33 from the shaft 12 of the fuel injection pump and consists of weights 36 integral with arms having projections 38 engaging the sleeve 41, and projections 39 engaging a boss to limit the travel of the weights. A ring 43 is mounted upon the sleeve 41 and pins sliding in a groove 52 connect it to a ring-shaped lever 48 encircling the shaft 29 and pivoted at 45. An upper corner of the lever 48 is connected by a link 55, adjustable in length to the rod 20 which adjusts the output of the fuel injection pump. The lever 48 is loaded by a light adjustable spring 70. The other corner of the lever 48 is connected by a pin and slot 59 to an abutment of the tension spring 62 the other abutment being connected to a lever 66 actuated by the operator. The two spring abutments include a projection and groove cooperating with each other so that to stop the engine the lever 66 is moved anticlockwise and through lever 48 moves the rod 20. For idle running the lever 66 is adjusted.so that the governor is loaded only by the spring 70, the slot 59 allowing regulating movements. Further movements of the lever 66 in a clockwise direction extends the spring 62 and varies the loading of the governor and the speed at which it controls the engine.
