Abstract

444,617. Roller pressures for woodworking machines. WHITE, T., c/o White & Sons, Ltd., T., Paisley. Oct. 14, 1935, No. 28293. [Class 145 (i)] A woodworking-machine having spring-loaded rollers to hold the work down on the table is provided with abutment means for maintaining the rollers in a predetermined position relatively to the table, and means for adjusting the spring loading on the rollers as desired without varying the predetermined position thereof. Each roller 1 is journalled in an arm 19 pivoted at 20 ; movement of the roller towards the table is limited by a screw stop 8. The arm 19 carries a depending rod 3 passing through a tube 6 guided in the machine frame ; initial loading is obtained by a spring 4 pressing against one end of the tube 6, the other end of which bears against a nut 5 mounted adjustably on the rod 3 so that the initial loading can be varied. An additional spring 12 bears at one end against a nut 10 on the rod 3 and at the other against a transverse member 13 which can be moved vertically to vary the loading of the spring 12. Simultaneous adjustment of the members 13 is effected by eccentrics 15 on a cross-shaft 16 rotated by a foot crank 17 or by a hand wheel.
