Abstract

486,480. Presses. RHODES, C. J. April 29, 1937, No. 12302. [Class 83 (iv)] In presses for punching and drawing sheet metal of the type having overhanging framing in which the presshead slides, the crank shaft 2 is journalled below the work table 7 and transmits motion to the head through a connecting- rod 16 and a pair of parallel links 13 pivoted at 14. The stress set up in press operation takes thereby the form of a compressive stress on the part of the framing between the work table and the overhanging framing. An adjustable stay 4 braces the upper part la of the framing to the motor platform 3. A vertically reciprocating head 9 is ball jointed at 10 to a link 11 pivoted at 12 to the links 13. The connecting- rod 16 has the form shown in Fig. 4 having a banjo frame centre 20a rendering the passage through the machine unobstructed and enabling it to be used for rearward delivery. An ejector lever 22 is pivoted at 23 and passes through a slot 21 which is sufficiently long for the lever not to be operated upon by the movement of the connecting-rod. The lever 22 also passes through a slot in the press head and is capable o f engaging a screwed bolt 27 attached to a cross stay 26a.
