Abstract

688,730. Cupping presses. CLEARING MACHINE CORPORATION. Dec. 15, 1950 [Jan. 20, 1950], No. 30639/50. Class 83 (iv). A triple action drawing press comprises a frame structure 1, a clamping slide 4 mounted thereon and movable with respect thereto, a first linkage mechanism mounted on the frame and connected to said clamping slide and drive means therefor, a primary draw slide 5 movable with respect to the frame and the clamping slide, a second linkage mechanism mounted on the frame and connected to said primary slide, means connecting said first and second linkages and for moving the primary slide and clamping slide together during the stroke of the clamping slide, drive means for the said second linkage to move the primary slide during its drawing operation and for returning it at a greater speed, a secondary draw slide and means to operate said secondary slide during the clamping operation of the clamping slide. Links 9, 10 are connected to each corner of the clamping and primary draw slides respectively and are connected through linkages 51, 64, respectively, Figs. 2 and 3, eccentrics and gearing to the main drive shaft, the linkages being connected together by a pin 89. The secondary draw slide is reciprocated directly by eccentrics 11 rotated through gearing from the main drive shaft. The clamping slide is adjusted vertically with respect to the die 111 by nuts 158, Fig. 9, engaging with adjusting screws 160 on which the links 9 are pivotally supported at their upper ends. The nuts are held from vertical movement by retaining members 159 and are rotated through gearing by coupled shafts 166, Fig. 11, driven by a motor 171. The primary draw slide is similarly adjusted through screws 155, gearing and a motor-driven shaft 148. The length of draw of the secondary draw slide is adjusted by the size of the die carried thereon or by shims. The clamping slide is carried between guides 135, Fig. 11, in the main frame and the primary draw slide is mounted within the clamping slide and guided by strips 142, 143, at the ends and strips 144, 145 at the front and rear. The arrangement of linkages 51 and 64, and the manner in which they are coupled is such as to cause the timing and operation of the cycle to be as shown in Fig. 13, wherein curves 4, 5 and 7 represent the motion curves of the clamping, primary-draw and second-draw slides respectively.
