In a metal drawing press, the blank clamping slide and draw slide reciprocable therein, are actuated by separate mechanical linkages so that both slides move simultaneously towards the blank until the clamping slide reaches clamping position, whereupon the linkage associated with this slide causes a dwell thereof during which the draw slide moves through its drawing stroke, the linkages being actuated by a common oscillating shaft rockably mounted in the machine frame. A common shaft 76 drives, through gearing, crank-shafts 42, 43 on each side of the press, each crank-shaft being in two parts, Fig. 6, and driving, through eccentrics 46, rocker shafts 50, also in two parts. The rocker shafts are connected through linkages 52-56 and links 15, and linkages 59-66 and links 34, to the clamping slide 9 and draw-slide 8 respectively. The arrangement is such as to move both slides to the clamping position and cause the clamping slide to dwell thereat. The draw-slide then moves to draw and returns to the clamping position during the said dwell, under the action of cranks 68 carried on the shafts 42, 43 and connected by links 70 to the links 34. The clamping slide is supported on screws 10, having adjusting nuts 12, 13, and the draw slide is carried on screws 18 which are adjusted by a motor and gearing carried on the draw slide. Hydraulic cylinders 36, 39 provide counterbalancing while the slides are being adjusted. Specification 692,509 is referred to.
