[Class 108 (i)] In trucks in which the lifting frame is elevated by means of a swinging movement of the shaft or handle from a vertical position and in which locking means, operated by a treadle, is adapted to lock the lifting frame in elevated position the shaft in its elevating position is at such an angle to the vertical and the releasing treadle extends to such a position that the operator when applying his foot to the treadle preparatory to lowering the load will place himself parallel to the shaft so that his weight is properly applied to ease the downward movement of the frame. The main frame 10 carries the lifting platform 14 by means of links 15 and a U-shaped handle 19 connected to sectors 17 is pivoted to the main frame at 16, the main frame 10 being provided with a lifting head or headstock 11. On the downward sweep of the handle 19, lugs 20 integral with the sectors 17 engage the links and lift the platform 14 which, in its highest position is locked by means of locking members 33 with members 37 on the lifting head 11. The handle can then be moved to vertical position and locked there by means of a detent 28 on the end of a pedal 25 engaging a shoulder 29 on the lifting member. To lower the platform the pedal is depressed to release the handle which is then moved rearwardly to apply lifting pressure to the platform 14. This releases the hook engaging means 36, 37, 39 and the continued pressure on the pedal then allows the member 33 to be raised by means of the projection 40 on the pedal and the platform 14 can then be lowered under the control of the handle by the operative who with a foot on the pedal 25 is braced to resist undue speed of lowering.
