Abstract

956,065. Low lift trucks. T. KIKUCHI. Feb. 5, 1962, No. 4334/62. Heading B8H. The U-shaped lifting frame 12 of a low-lift hand truck is connected to a U-shaped chassis 1 by parallel pivoted links 13, 14 and is raised by a foot lever 21, 22 which is pivoted to a rigid handle 9, 10 and which is connected to the links 14 by links 20, and a latch mechanism 36 is provided to lock the frame 12 automatically in its raised position. The mechanism 26 comprises a latch 27, Fig. 3a, having a hook portion 28 and an abutment face 32 and provided with a slot 29 which engages a pin 33 on a bracket 25 secured to the chassis 1. On depressing the foot lever 21, the cross-bar of the lever engages the face 32 and depresses the latch 27 until the pin 33 is at the top of the slot 29 in which position a spring 34 pivots the latch in an anti-clockwise direction about the pin so that on releasing the foot lever 21, the weight of the frame 12 and the load raises the lever 21 to bring the cross-bar into engagement with the hook portion 28 and to raise the latch until the pin 33 is at the bottom of the slot 29, thereby holding the frame 12 in a raised position. To lower the frame 12, the foot pedal is depressed slightly to disengage it from the hook portion 28 of the latch whereupon the spring 34 pivots the latch in a clockwise direction about the pin 33 so that on releasing the foot pedal it is free to rise to its full-line position thereby lowering the frame 12.
