Abstract

340,857. Hand trucks. CROAD, A. K., 70, Chancery Lane, London.-(Yale & Towne Manufacturing Co. ; Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A.) Feb. 27, 1930, No. 6553. [Class 108 (i).] Hand-trucks having elevating platforms are provided with a member connected to the steering handle which member engages with another member on the elevating platform having a number of arcuate interengaging portions whereby the operation of the steering handle in any steering position is enabled to raise the platform by successive strokes. The handle 17 is provided with a hook 16 adapted to engage a member 15 on the elevating platform 6 which member 15 has two arcuate portions 18, 19. The platform 6 is carried on the main frame 5 by a series of compound links 11, 13. The link 11 is pivoted to the main frame 5 and is provided with an extension which normally bears on a stop 12 and is also provided with a stop 14 against which the link is caused to bear after the first elevating stroke. The hook 16 engages with the portion 19 during the first stroke and raises the platform through the rotation of the links 13 alone. The frame is then locked in its intermediate position by a hook 22 engaging a portion 21 on the elevating platform. The steering handle is then moved forward to allow the hook 16 to engage the portion 18 and the platform is lifted about the compound links 11, 13 which then act as one link. The platform is then locked by a depression in the hook 22 engaging the portion 21. The platform is lowered by releasing the hooks 16, 21 which then descends against the action of a brake device 26.
