Abstract
532,861. Lift trucks. BRIGGS, E. R. Dec. 23, 1939, No. 32827. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A hand truck comprises a platform pivotally mounted on the truck frame and adapted to be lowered for insertion beneath a load either by raising or by lowering the handles from the travelling position, the load being raised when the handles are returned. In one construction, Fig. 4, a platform 5 pivotally mounted at 4 between the side members or handle bars 1 of the truck is shown disposed be neath a stillage or load support 8. Upon lowering the bars 1 to the position for wheeling, the platform is raised and lifts the stillage and, by engagement with a stop bar 7, assumes a horizontal position. The platform may have a castor wheel at its end remote from the wheels 3 so that it assumes a horizontal position when lowered. In a modification, the platform is lowered by lowering the handle bars and it is positioned horizontally, when lowered, by engagement of a leg thereon with the ground and, when raised, by a stop bar, such as 7, which engages beneath the end of the platform. The truck may have two wheels 3, as shown, or a single wheel.
