Abstract
453,669. Elevating - trucks. YALE & TOWNE MANUFACTURING CO., Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A. July 27, 1935, No. 21409. Convention date, Oct. 4, 1934. [Class 108 (i)] Elevating-trucks are provided with an auxiliary means of raising the load platform into engagement with the load after which the lifting of the platform with the load is accomplished by the main heavy duty lifting means and the load platform and frame are interconnected by compound links whereby during the preliminary raising, the load platform is moved relatively to the lower links of the compound links and thereafter relatively to both the upper and lower links which become in effect composite links. The load platform 11 is raised by means of levers 50 and links 60, 61 arranged to give a high lift by means of a stop 76 on link 61 engaging a stop on the lever 50 after a certain amount of lift has been accomplished. The levers 50 are mounted on shafts 49 having a ratchet wheel 48, Fig. 13, which is operated step-bystep by means of a pawl 47 on a lever 46 reciprocated by the draught handle 40 through a link 43. A retaining pawl 51 mounted on the lever 54 may be withdrawn by means of a foot lever 57 having a cam 53 engageable with the roller 55 on the lever 54, the cam 53 being also arranged that by contact with the lever 56 the operating pawl 47 may be withdrawn. The auxiliary means for the preliminary raising of the platform 11 comprises a pedal lever 64, Fig. 4, connected to the shaft 49 by links 67, 69, the arrangement being that the elevating mechanism is rotated carrying with it the levers 50 which are then in position for further actuation by the main heavy duty operating means. The load platform 11 is connected to the frame by compound links which are similar in both front and rear. Considering the front links, links 25, 28 are pivoted together at 27, Fig. 4, and to the frame and platform respectively at 26, 29. The link 28 has a tail extension 33 adapted to contact with a stop 32, Fig. 11, on the link. At the commencement of the lift the link 28 remains motionless in relation to the platform 11, the lifting being accomplished about the link 25. The links 25, 28 then coact by means of stops 34, 35 engaging whereupon the platform 11 moves about the double link 25, 28 with the effective leverage of the combined links 25, 28.
