Abstract
1303393 Masted lift trucks ANDERSON CLAYTON & CO 19 April 1971 [11 Dec 1970] 25998/71 Heading B8H A narrow-aisle attachment 70 for use with a lift truck includes: a load-support tree 30 (Figs. 9-11), an inner pair of symmetrical arms 34, 36, pivotally attached to the tree, an outer pair of generally symmetrical arms 38, 40, pivotally attached to the ends of the inner arms, and a front plate 14 pivotally attached to the outer pair of arms. The respective pivotal connections 54 and 56 between the arms 38 and 40, and the plate 14, are slightly offset as visible in Figs. 11 and 12, with the result that the plate 14 forms a link between the arms 38 and 40. The invention also includes work-engaging means 16 (Figs. 1- 3) attachable to the plate, rotating means 58 and 60 mechanically interconnecting each of the inner arms and the tree, to rotate the arms relative to the tree, latch means 32, 72 and 32, 74, selectively interconnecting each of the outer arms to the plate, means 78 for selectively actuating the latch means, side-shifter means 28 supporting the tree for selective shifting of the tree transversely to the truck, and means 102, 104, for selectively actuating the side-shifter means. The tree, arms and plate thus form a pivoted six-bar linkage. Relative twisting between the load support tree 30 and the side shifter means 28 is prevented by rollers 90, 94 (Fig. 10), on the tree, which run in guides 92, 96, respectively, on the attachment framework 70, and fixed gear-racks 80, 82, which engage with pinions 84, 86, carried by the tree 30. In operation, when needing to turn the forks 16 from the position shown in Fig. 1 to engage a pallet 18 in a side rack, the appropriate cylinder 102 or 104 of the means 28 (Fig. 10) is energized to move the tree laterally away from the rack. This causes engagement by an appropriate one of two rollers 140 on respective sides of the framework, with a releasing means 78 of the appropriate latch 32. Energization of the cylinders 58, 60 brings the front plate 14 to the full line position of Fig. 3.
