1416864 Container traffic; vehicle container loading and tipping SHEPPARD EQUIPMENT Ltd 6 Dec 1972 [8 Dec 1971] 57034/71 Heading B8Q [Also in Division B7] A container 3 is loaded on to a transport vehicle by a mechanism comprising a subframe 2 consisting of side member 7 connected by a cross member 4 and having a first frame 9 pivoted thereto at 8. A second frame 14 having side members 11 is pivoted to the first frame at 10 and by pivot pins 16 mounts the normally horizontal part of a third member 17. Intermediate pivot pins 15 support levers 20, constituting fifth members pivotally mounting at one end fourth member rods 22 in turn pivoted at 23 to the third member 17. An actuating ram 25 or motor extends between an intermediate pivot pin 24 of the levers 20 and a pivot pin 26 of a cross member 27 of the sub-frame 2. To load a container 3 from the ground, Fig. 2, the ram 25 is extended thus first moving the levers 20 from A to B, Fig. 4, and consequently the member 17 from C to D and then pivoting the frame 14 about its pivots 10 until a hook 18 can engage a lifting bar 19 of thecontainer position E, Fig. 2. Retraction of the ram 25 will now reverse the movements lifting the container and drawing it on to the vehicle with its frame members 36 running on flanged wheels 6 at the rear of the vehicle until arms 37 of a cross member 38 between the side members 11 engage portions 39 of the container base to hold it on the vehicle. If a backstop 28, Fig. 1, is now operated to prevent pivoting of the levers 20 the parts become locked so that extension of the ram 25 will cause the ports to pivot together about the pins 8 to tip the container to position F, Fig. 2, to discharge its contents. Two modifications of the actuating mechanism parts are described providing different means to lock the parts to allow tipping of the container.
