Abstract

342,241. Hand-trucks. LEWISSHEPHARD CO., 125, Walnut Street, Watertown, Massachusetts, U.S.A. June 16, 1930, No. 18339. Convention date, June 20, 1929. [Class 108 (i).] An elevating truck is provided with a lifting lever having a pedal, so positioned as to enable the operator, when grasping the vertically positioned steering handle, to project his full weight upon the pedal so that the initial lifting force applied by the momentum of the full weight of the operator to the lever to start the lifting mechanism from a position of rest will greatly exceed that produced by the static application of his weight to the pedal. As shown, the truck comprises a wheeled frame 11, having a steering handle 10 and a lifting frame 18. The lifting lever 43, 46 provided with a pedal 45 is adapted to lift the frame in two stages, and to this end is provided with pawls 48, 49, symmetrically disposed with respect to the longitudinal axis of the truck, having teeth presenting shoulders 50, 51 adapted to engage, in turn, a projecting rotary shaft 34 on the lifting frame. The lifting frame is locked at successive stages by locking levers 66, also disposed symmetrically to the longitudinal axis of the truck, and adapted to engage the shaft 34 by means of teeth 69. A vertical dashpot restrains the lowering of the lifting frame when the locking levers are released by the pedal 58.
