Abstract
442,849. Inductances. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON, 33, Kungsgatan, Stockholm. May 11, 1934, No. 14347. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Nov. 19, 1934]. [Class 37] In inductance coils provided with a shell-type core, which may be moulded from compressed powdered magnetic material mixed with insulating material, the core surrounded coaxially by the coil winding is divided into two parts which have their ends so shaped that by relative rotation the reluctance of the core is varied. In the construction shown, the coil 3 is surrounded by a shell type core consisting of powdered magnetic material mixed with material known under the Registered Trade Mark "Bakelite." The core is divided into two parts 1, 2 forming a round box and lid, each part having a central cylindrical stem surrounded by the coil 3. The two stems have their meeting ends semicircular so that the area of the surface of contact is varied by rotating the lid 2 relatively to the box 1, thereby adjusting the inductance of the coil 3. The assembly is enclosed in a sheet metal box 5 with a cover 6, serving for electrostatic and electromagnetic shielding. A spring 9 presses the core parts 1, 2 together. A screw 7 engaging a semicircular slit in the cover 6 enables the core part 2 to be fixed when the desired adjustment has been made. The abutting surfaces of the core stems may be shaped to give any desired law of variation. The box 1 and cover 2 may be rigidly connected, one or both central stems being rotatable in relation to the core parts.
