[Class 47 (ii)] A fire-extinguisher of the gas cartridge type and of large capacity comprises a horizontal tank 10 secured by strips 51 on a wheeled carriage 12 and having at one end a vertical pressure chamber 17 in which the gas cartridge 19 is housed. The chamber 17 has a removable closure 16 for the insertion of the cartridge, and the latter is guided by lugs 18 and adapted to be forced against a piercer 21 by a screwed plunger 24. The chamber 17 is connected to the space above the liquid 14 in the tank 10 by way of a passage 32, control valve 31, and spring-pressed check valve 28. Liquid is discharged from the tank by way of the tube 41, control valve 42, and hose 43. In use, the plunger 24 is actuated to puncture the cartridge 19. When. the valve 31 is opened, the gas, preferably nitrogen, released from the cartridge forces open the valve 28 and passes into the tank 10, expelling the liquid 14 through the hose 43 when the valve 42 is opened. The carriage 12 consists of saddles 46, 47 united by tie rods 48 and carrying, respectively, a pair of wheels 55 and a swivelled wheel 56. A handle 58 is secured to the saddle 46.
