Abstract

315,178. Doughty, H. W. Nov. 23, 1928. Chemicals; portable pressure reservoirs; sprinklers, automatic.- In an automatic extinguisher of the kind in which a liquid, such as an ammonia solution, develops pressure when heated on the occurrence of a fire, to expel a fire-extinguishing medium, such as carbon tetrachloride, from a container, the container is formed of aluminium, which is not corroded by the liquids specified. As shown, the carbon tetrachloride is in an inner container 15, and the ammonia solution in an outer container 5. The inner container when used may be of glass or earthenware, but preferably also is of aluminium. The extinguishing liquid is expelled by way of a tube 18, which passes through the cover 7 of the outer container and is closed by a plate 23 and fusible link 24. The extinguisher is suspended at the place to be protected by a bail 13. An air-vent 26 is provided to facilitate filling the extinguisher. Specification 22128/12 is referred to.
