Abstract
439,934. Two-part couplings. FARISH, R. E., Columbus, Georgia, U.S.A. June 5, 1935, No. 16405. [Class 38 (i)] A two-part coupling comprises a plug and a socket each having axial and ring contacts, the ring contact of the socket being sunk in a narrow opening which is too narrow to admit the axial member of the plug. As indicated in Fig. 1, the axial member 2 of the plug engages and is held by the U-shaped spring socket member 18 whilst the plug ring member 6 abuts the socket ring member 25 sunk in a recess as shown. This recess is narrow enough to prevent the plug member 3 engaging the ring 25 whilst the plug is being inserted. The coupling is adapted to screw into a screwtype lamp-holder and is provided with a cap 12. The ring members of the plug and socket may overlap as shown in Fig. 5, and may have inter-engaging spring portions as shown at 39, 40. In this embodiment the external threaded contact 28 is slipped onto the socket portion 30 and is held by screws 32 whilst the cap 34 is of metal and is held by screws 35. In another embodiment the ring contacts overlap and are made respectively with inter-engaging recess and pip whilst in a still further embodiment the plug ring contact comprises a number of bent back tongues to engage a solid ring contact on the socket.
