439,824. Coking processes; materials for making gas and other products. POWER-GAS CORPORATION, Ltd., Parkfield Works, Stockton-on-Tees, RAMBUSH, N. E., Homestead, Marton Road, Middlesbrough, and INGMAN, C., 25, Del Strother Avenue, Stockton-on-Tees. June 16, 1934, No. 17866. [Classes 55 (i) and 55 (ii)] Fuel briquettes are carbonized in a retort 1 by the passage through the charge of a hot gas which may be preheated in one of two regenerators 8 worked alternately, the heating gas being passed by a fan 7 in a closed circuit through a washer 6 back to a heat regenerator and the retort. Surplus gas is withdrawn through an outlet 10. The briquettes are composed of either or both bituminous binding material such as pitch, and a coking coal together with materials of low coking index such as anthracite or coke breeze. In a modification, a heatexchanger is used in which a portion of the gas given off is burned to heat the remainder passing through the retort.
