Abstract
Fine-grained ores are briquetted with a bonding medium consisting of a fraction, boiling above 250 DEG C., of the carbonization tar obtained by the low-temperature carbonization of coal fines with the use of hot coke as heat carrier material, the briquettes being subsequently subjected to oxidative hardening. Coal fines may be mixed with 4 to 25 parts by weight of coke which has been heated to between 700 DEG and 800 DEG C. and simultaneously degasified until its volatile content is between 2 and 6%, the resultant coal-coke mixture being at a temperature of about 600 DEG C. The volatile products are drawn through the cold solid material to be briquetted which is either descending down a shaft or is in the form of a fluidized bed, and the resultant cooling causes mainly the high boiling tar constituents to condense, uniformly wetting the solids to be briquetted and also heating them to a suitable briquetting temperature of 60 DEG -80 DEG C. The briquettes are subsequently heated to 250 DEG C. and treated with oxygen-containing gases. Specifications 793,518 and 844,823 are referred to.
