Abstract

The hairs of pelts are agglutinated and stuck down on to the skin by treatment with a solution prepared by adding to a solution of glue containing lactic acid, a second solution comprising sugar, glycerine, logwood extract, castor oil and water and chrome leather black dye. After application of the solution, the adhering composition is rendered insoluble by treatment with a tanning substance, e g ammonium bichromate. An alternative method of treatment is by applying an alkali resin soap and then ferrous sulphate to produce insoluble iron resin soap.
