Abstract
Acid wool and substantive dyes, dyeing with; dye preparations.--Level dyeings on leather with acid or substantive dyes are obtained by applying the dyestuffs in conjunction with substances of neutral or acid reaction exerting a buffer action at pH values of 7 to 3.2. The dyeings so produced have an increased resistance to soap and alkalies. Specified buffer substances are salts of weak bases, e.g. ammonium chloride, sulphate, formate or oxalate, magnesium sulphate or acetate, aluminium sulphate or acetate and salts of suitable polybasic acids, e.g. alkali metal phosphates, potassium acid phthalate, sodium or ammonium acid diglycollate, potassium acid adipinate and sodium or potassium acid saccharate. The following examples are specified: (1) Full saturated level dyeings are obtained upon East Indian wet sheepskins by drumming them for 45 minutes in an aqueous liquor at 40 DEG C. containing a mixture obtained by grinding together Metanil yellow extra and sodium acid diglycollate and specially level dyeings are obtained upon chrome-tanned leather by treatment for 30 minutes in a similar liquor at 60 DEG C. followed by greasing and continuation of the treatment for a further 20 minutes. (2) Chrome-tanned leather is dyed as in (1) with the use of a mixture obtained by grinding together Direct deep black E extra and ammonium sulphate; the dyeings are fast to the subsequent fat liquoring. (3) Well-covered level dyeings are obtained upon neutralized chrome calfskins by drumming them for 30 minutes in an aqueous liquor at 60 DEG C. containing Direct deep black E extra and potassium acid saccharate, thereafter adding formic acid and drumming for a further 30 minutes.
