536,088. Artificial fibres. SANDOZ, Ltd. July 27, 1939, No. 21861. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1938. [Classes 2 (ii) and 15 (ii)] Artificial protein fibres containing chromium oxide are obtained by treating fibres.formed from solutions of casein or other protein substances with compounds of chromic anhydride, such as sodium or potassium bichromate, followed by treatment with reducing agents such as sodium bisulphite, sulphurous acid, or sodium thiosulphate. The treatment increases the strength of the fibres and their resistance to pulling, friction, wear, boiling water, and hot ironing, and also increases the fastness of dyeings with acid, chrome, and direct dyestuffs. Examples are given of dyeings with acid and with chrome dyes.
