Abstract

Mordant dyes, dyeing with.--Leather is dyed by applying thereto, in a dyebath at about 55--65 DEG C. and in presence of a soluble dichromate, one of the following chromate or afterchrome dyestuffs, viz. Solochrome yellow Y or 2GS, Solochrome brown RH, RS, RGS, EBS or PS, Solochrome red B or ERS, Solochrome violet R or 4RS, Solochrome black WD, 6B, A, F or PV, Solochrome orange GRS, Solochrome dark blue BS and Alizarine red AS. The following examples are specified: (1) Sumac mordanted, chrome tanned, gloving sheep leather is thoroughly wetted with water and drummed in water at 60 DEG C. and a hot water solution containing Solochrome black WD and potassium dichromate is added; drumming is continued for 30 minutes, whereupon a solution of formic acid is added and drumming continued for 20 minutes to obtain a level pearl grey dyeing, fast to washing with soap; excess dichromate may be removed by drumming in a solution of a reducing agent such as sodium sulphite or thiosulphate; (2) Semichrome Persians are similarly dyed a brown shade, fast to washing and to light, with Solochrome brown RS; (3) Aldehyde tanned sheepskin splits are similarly dyed a black shade, fast to washing, with Solochrome black F.
