Abstract
Alloys resistant to mechanical stress and chemical action comprises copper or copper-nickel alloy and 2 to about 10 per cent of thorium. One or more metals which improve the properties of the alloys without modifying the action of the thorium may be added in a total proportion of about 20 per cent to the alloys. Examples of such additions are zinc up to 20 per cent tin up to 20, aluminium up to 12, beryllium up to 5, manganese up to 20 and chromium up to 20. The alloys are prepared by melting in a high vacuum to prevent oxidation and the formation of other impurities.
