Abstract

437,356. Hydraulic shock-absorbers. DUBONNET, A., 114, Boulevard Maurice Barres, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. Jan. 25, 1934, No. 2660. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 27, 1934]. [Class 108 (iii)] In a vehicle hydraulic shock - absorber of the piston - and - cylinder type a tapered pin adjustably fixed at one end of the cylinder is adapted to enter a liquid transfer passage in the piston after the piston has passed its mean position. The transfer passage may be a Venturi orifice n, as shown, in which movement of the double-ended piston f<1>, f<2> to the right forces liquid through the orifice n, which is gradually restricted by the tapered pin p, and into a chamber k, liquid also passing freely from the chamber k through a disc-controlled opening m in the piston. On reverse movement, liquid is forced into the chamber k through an aperture j controlled by a screw valve l, liquid also passing from the chamber k through the orifice n. The operating arm h of the piston has a valvecontrolled passage r leading to a cup t from which passages branch to the bearings of the operating shaft and elsewhere, oil, if such is used, being sucked up the passage r due to the relative vertical movement between the arm h and its rotatable spherical bearing i, during operation of the shock-absorber. The shockabsorber may be used in conjunction with a wheel-mounting similar to that described in Specification 423,632.
