Abstract

398,766. Pneumatic and hydraulic shock-absorbers. CHARLES, M., 217, Boulevard St-Denis, Courbevoie, Seine, France. April 20, 1933, No. 11598. Convention date, April 20, 1932. [Class 108 (iii ). ] A hydro-pneumatic shockabsorber comprises a compressed air chamber a displaceable with respect to a liquid containing vessel l to which is fixed the stepped hollow rod e of a piston, bellows or like member c limiting the air chamber a, the rod being connected by a calibrated hole in a screw n with the liquid in the lower part of the vessel l so that when the shock absorber is compressed (1) liquid passes to the bellows &c. c through an annular orifice between the rod e and an apertured plug r on the end of the chamber, which orifice is gradually closed by the increases in diameter of the rod e, and also passes through a non-return disc-valve s - co-operating with the plug r, and (2) liquid passes from the vessel l through the calibrated hole and into the rod e and forces a piston f to move up the rod against spring-pressure. On extension of the shock-absorber, liquid flows back through the annular orifice, which gradually increases due to the decreases in diameter of the rod e, and is expelled from the rod e by the spring h acting on the piston f. The lower end of the rod e is secured by a nut j against the lower end k of the vessel l. Flattening of the bellows is prevented by a member w. Specification 250,596, [Class 103 (i), Brakes &c.], is referred to.
