Abstract

574,817. Railway vehicle bogies; dashpots. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. July 2, 1943, No. 10764. Convention date, July 18, 1942. [Classes 103 (vi) and 108 (iii)] In a mounting on a bogie for the body of a railway vehicle and which is of the type including spring side-bearings and hydraulic damping-devices, single structural elements each comprising a spring side-bearing and a hydraulic damping-device are arranged directly between the bogie frame and the vehicle, a swing bolster being omitted. In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the top part 5 of each side bearing is fixed to the body 1 and forms a casing for the spring 8 ; the bottom part 6, which forms a guide for the spring, slides in the upper part 5 and is supported by a part-spherical socket 7 mounted on the bogie frame 2. The hydraulic damping-device is provided by hollow guiding parts within parts 5 and 6 which provide liquid-containing spaces 13, 14 of which 13 diminishes in oil capacity as parts 5 and 6 are pushed together so that liquid is forced through a throttle opening 10 in a plug 9 carried at the bottom end of the part containing the space 14. In a modification, Fig. 3, the throttle opening 10 is not in the plug 9 but in a spring-loaded valve 15, the liquid passing from space 13 during slow movements between the parts 5 and 6 through the opening 10 and a large opening 17, but under higher pressure in space 13 the valve 15 lifts so that liquid can pass readily through openings 18, 19. In another modification, which is designed to limit the pressure occurring in the liquid spaces during movements in each of the two directions, the spring valve 15 is made as a differential piston. A further modification with double-acting dampers exerting equal forces in the two directions is also described.
