Abstract
448,456. Railway - vehicle bogies. ARMSTRONG, WHITWORTH, & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., SIR W. G., and PAWSON, G., Sootwsood Works, Newcastle - on - Tyne. Dec. 7, 1934, No. 35258. [Class 103 (vi)] In order to provide for the disposition of a rod of the brake or driving-gear or equivalent mechanism along the central line of a rail or like vehicle, the centre pivot pin is made in the form of an arch 8 having two feet 8a which are adapted to engage and be slidable vertically within a ring or similar member 6 swivelling within a socket or bearing 7 carried by the bogie, the arch 8 being designed to bridge the rod 9 with sufficient clearance to permit the necessary relative displacement between the parts. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the centre pivot is of the non-loadcarrying kind, the feet 8a engaging notches 6a in the ring 6, while the bearing 7 is mounted on a spring-supported bolster 2 having loadcarrying side bearings 4, 5. In a modification, the feet 8a extend to the bottom of the notches 6a and take the load, while the side bearings are non-load-carrying. In another construction, Fig. 4, the feet 8a are lengthened and extend through a diametral segment of a sphere 13 working in a split spherical ring 14, 14a supported by a transverse member 15 of the bogie frame.
