T. H. AINSWORTH TIVE TRUCK Filed Aug. 19, 1926 Patented Jan. l0, 1928'.
UNITED STATES THOMAS H. AINSWORTH, F SCHENECTADY, NEW YORK.
LOCOMOTIVE TRUCK.
Application led August 19, 1926. Serial No. 130,189.
My invention relates to trucks equipped .with lateral motion appliances, and its object is to provide means for taking up the Wear incident to the oscillation of the rock.
a half horizontal transverse section, on an' enlarged scale, through the rocker seat plate;
"and, Fig. 4, a half Vert-ical transverse section through the same.
It is well known in lthe art to employ substantially heart shaped rockers to permit of lateral movement of the wheels. Such rockers are customarily provided,v at their bottoms, with two substantially cylindrical cars, which tit in correspondingly shaped grooves in the rocker seat-plate. Due to the great weight borne by the rockers, and their frequent oscillation, considerable wear of both the rocker and seat, occurs. in service. This invention is primarily directed to providing means for taking up the wear incident to the oscillation of the rockers.
In the practice of my invention, referring descriptively to the specific embodiment thereof which is herein exemplified, my invention is applied, in a truck, the Wheels, l, axle, 2, journal boxes, 3, and frame, 4, of which are all of the usual construction. The frame embodies a rocker seat plate, 5, having seat grooves, 6, in which are seated the two ears, 7, of the heart shaped rockers, 8.
For the purpose of taking up the wear incident to the oscillation of the rockers, I provide a renewable curved bushing, 9, in each lseat groove, 6. The bushings, 9, may bc Welded, or otherwise secured to the seats, and it is within the contemplation of the invention to vapply the bushings directly to the ears of the rockers.
.Heretofore, in the art, frequent renewal of the bearing plates has been necessary, due to the wear on the seat rooves incident to the oscillation of the roc er. My improvement provides means adapted to take up the wear. incident to the oscillation of the'rockers, said means being readily renewable at consider 55 ably less expense than is involved in replacing the entire seat plates.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
Ina truck, the combination of a frame; a rocker, lhaving curved bearing. ears; a plate, having curved recesses for the vreception of said ears; `and curved bushings, fitted in said recesses, and Welded to the plate.
THOMAS H. AINSWORTH.
