Abstract
454,819. Hinges. GREEN, 0., 2, Queen's Road, Coventry. Dec. 14, 1935, No. 34726. [Class 65 (ii)] In a self-aligning hinge of the kind having a spherical bearing member placed between the relatively movable parts of the hinge and fixed to or integral with one of these parts, the bearing member is arranged to retain the hinge parts together. In the form shown in Fig. 3, a ball-headed member a is secured to the hinge member b by a nut m, or by screwing or riveting into the bore of the member b, and bears in a hemispherical socket, provided with an anti-friction metal bush g in the form shown, in the other hinge member c. The parts are detachably held together by a spring ring e which engages in a groove in the bush g or socket c and snaps over the ball head a. The socket c is drilled at d for lubrication, the hole being filled with a pad of absorbent material. In the form shown in Fig. 6 the parts are more permanently connected, the ball member a being inserted through the top of member c before being secured in member b by riveting, as shown, or screw means ; the upper end of the bore of member c is closed by a screw plug and contains a spring-pressed bearing pad k bored for lubrication.
