Abstract

642,487. Ball joints. ALFORD & ALDER (ENGINEERS), Ltd., and LIND, J. A.'June 7, 1948, No. 15356. [Class 65(ii)] In a ball and socket joint in which the upper seating member 10 is in screwed engagement with the housing 8, Fig. 1, and a spring 15 is connected between the member and the housing so as to effect automatic adjustment to take up wear, the bore in the housing for receiving the ball and socket members is arranged transversely to the track rod 1. In Fig. 3, the upper seating member comprises an unscrewed member 22 and a screwed adjustment member 21. A rubber gaiter 19 is arranged between the housing 8 and the shank 3 of the ball and the disc 17 closing the upper end of the housing is tapped to receive a lubricating nipple.
