Abstract
819,733. Ball and socket joints. LANGEN, V., [trading as EHRENREICH & CIE A.]. May 4, 1956 [May 7, 1955], No. 13770/56. Class 65(2) A ball and socket joint, Fig. 1, in which a stud 1 is formed with a head provided with a shoulder 2 and is carried in a partspherical bearing member 3 rotatable with respect to the stud and supported tiltably in a part-spherical casing 4, and in which a compensator comprising a layer 5 of resilient material and a slide disc 6 is inserted between the shoulder and the bearing member, relative rotation between shoulders and bearing member taking place over the slide disc and the latter being secured against rotation relatively to the resilient material, is characterized by a spring separate from the resilient material to apply pressure to the head. In various modifications the head or the bearing member is covered by a layer of resilient. material, the slide disc 6 encloses the resilient layer 5, a second slide disc is inserted in the base of the bearing member, and a resilient sleeve, which may be integral with the layer 5, is interposed between the stud shank and the bearing member. In a further modification, Fig. 15, the stud head is supported in a cup 28 held in position by a spring 29, and an extension 32 of the stud projecting from the shoulder is carried in a part-spherical bearing member 31 tiltable in a part-spherical socket casing insert 34. Lubricating channels may be formed in the bearing member and in the slide disc.
