Abstract

437,220. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Sept. 25, 1934, No. 27523. Convention date, Sept. 25, 1933. [Class 38 (ii)] Relates to an induction regulator of the type having four inductances arranged in bridge connection, the supply being to one diagonal and the regulated voltage being taken from the other diagonal, regulation of voltage between a positive and negative maximum being effected by varying the impedance of the inductances in pairs by means of a shortcircuited coil, and consists in arranging the inductances 1-4, in the form of a stator and the short-circuited coil C as a rotor. If desired to obtain transformer action, two sets of windings may be arranged on the stator, the supply being connected to one set and the load connected to the other or alternatively auto-transformer connection may be employed. A single layer, double layer or Gramme ring winding may be used on the stator. The rotor may be wound as in a D.C. machine without commutator and short-circuited in one axis, or may be formed of a number of short-circuited windings arranged parallel to the short-circuit axis.
