437,116. Hydromechanical variablespeed gearing. HAWLEY, A. B., 52, Seymour Street, SPIES, E. N., Lower Russell Street, and TINDALL, W. G., George Street, all in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia. April 24, 1934, No. 12361. [Class 80 (ii)] Variable-speed gearing automatically variable with the load comprises planetary spindles 33 each with a pinion 38 and a paddle 37 in an oil bath 40 within a closed rotary drum 26. The drum 26 is fast on a driving &c. shaft 5 which extends out of an enveloping fixed casing 10, and the pinons 38 mesh with a wheel 39 fast on a central driven &c. shaft 8 also extending out of the casing. Filler and drain plugs 31, 32 on the drum 26 register with like plugs 16, 15 on the casing 10. Dippers 42 carried by the drum 26 splash oil from the base of the casing 10 over the toothed gearing. As applied for driving vehicles, the shaft 5 is connected through mechanical reversing-gearing to a main or engine clutch.
