Abstract

Lubricants for textiles comprise a basis of paraffin wax together with a water-soluble emulsifier and a hydrophile substantially water-insoluble aliphatic alcohol to act as a stabilizing agent. The emulsifier is conveniently a salt of an aliphatic acid having ten or more carbon atoms. The lubricant may contain in addition other textile waxes and oils, in particular olive, linseed and mineral oils, and spermaceti and spermaceti oil. In examples, paraffin wax and hexadecanol are melted together, and the mixture stirred into a solution of sodium tetradecanol sulphate; as alternatives, an oleic ammonium soap or the acid amide of oleic acid and amino-ethane sodium sulphonate may be used as the emulsifier, and beeswax and montan wax, mineral oil or spermaceti may be employed in conjunction with the paraffin wax; paraffin wax, spermaceti and wool grease alcohol are melted together, and the mixture introduced into a solution of sodium octadecanoyl-methyl-aminoethane sulphonate. The lubricants are suitable for the treatment of scoured wool, and for working wool tops into stubbing. Specifications 307,472, [Class 81 (i)], and 361,860 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the following substances as alternatives to paraffin wax: fatty oils, fats, japan wax and waxlike substances, spermaceti and spermaceti oil, blubber and mineral oils; to the use as hydrophile water-insoluble substances of paraffin-like radicles carrying hydrophile groups such as hydroxyl, acid amide, carbon amide and sulphamide groups, for instance, wool grease, mono- and di-glycerides, glycol and glycerine esters such as oleoyl glycol ester, stearyl and oleoyl amides, laurylaminopropionylamide, propionylaminopropionyl aminomethylamide, palmitoylethanolamide, tetradecanesulphamide, hexadecansulphestianol amide, hexadecane-sulphaminoethane sulpho (methyl) amide and octodecanesulphacidaminopropandiol; and to the use as emulsifiers of the oleates of ammonium triethanolamine, sodium stearosulphonate, pyridine laurosulphonate, the sodium salts of hexadecanolsulphuric acid ester and of sulphurated castor oil, the ammonium salt of octadecanol sulphuric acid, the diammonium salt of chloroctadecanolsulphonacidsulphuric acid, the potassium and triethanolamine salts of octadecenoylmethylaminoethanol sulphuric acid, the salts of hexadecane sulphaminoethanesulphacid and the corresponding product methylated with sulphamide, and the salts of aliphatic alcohol-phosphoric esters. It also includes the following examples: paraffin wax, with or without oil, melted with oleinic alcohol is mixed with a solution of oleinic acid saponified with potash; as alternatives, the oleinic alcohol is replaced by olein amide, laurinic alcohol or ethal; an emulsion for wool tops is made of solid ethal, liquid ethal, oleinic acid, potash and soft paraffin; an emulsion for artificial silk contains paraffin wax, cetyl alcohol, linseed oil and soap. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
