<PICT:0436932/IV/1> <PICT:0436932/IV/2> In the production of rayon, winding-bobbins a are mounted on rods b in the spinning-machine and when wound are treated as an assembly, without removal from the rods, in the washing and other finishing apparatus. The rods are carried in pairs on discs c in the spinning-machine, a clutch f being provided whereby the discs may be rotated by gearing g to bring empty bobbins a<1> into the lower position for winding, and the wound bobbins a into the upper position from which the rods b, without dismantling the bobbins, are readily removable to the finishing-apparatus. The bobbin sets are arranged in columns in the desulphuration chambers and the fluid circulates from "the top downwardly and passes outside and inside the bobbins," and the sets are similarly arranged in the drying chambers, "the fluid by which they are washed and dried circulating from the bottom upwardly."
