Convention date, March 19, 1934. [Class 38 (iv)] [See also Group XL] An electric discharge tube 1 is supplied from a high tension A.C. supply source 2 through metal sheathed cables 4, 9, one electrode 5 of the tube being connected to one terminal of the source through a cable 4 and the other electrode 10 to the cable 9 which terminates near but is not connected to the supply source the other terminal of which is connected to the cable sheath 8 of cable 9 so as to form a series stabilizing capacity for the discharge tube. The sheaths of both cables may be earthed. Where a number of tubes are operated in parallel a multicored sheathed cable is employed the sheath of which is connected to one terminal of the supply source, the " free " electrodes of the tubes being connected to conductors in the cable which terminate near the source and the other electrodes being connected to a common conductor which for a major part of its length, passes inside the multicored cable, and is connected to the other terminal of the supply.
