Abstract
436,120. Winding yarns. SCHARERNUSSBAUMER & CO., Erlenbach, Switzerland. Feb. 4, 1935, Nos. 3573 and 3574. Convention dates, April 21, 1934 and Sept. 22, 1934. [Class 120 (ii)] In a holder for clamping a cop tube on the spindle of a yarn-winding machine and comprising one or more annular springs engaging the internal surface of the tube, an abutment is provided for engaging the end of the tube so that when the latter is in engagement with the abutment, it is retained in position by at least one annular spring being forced by the axial displacement of its mounting against the internal surface of the tube. As shown in Fig. 1, the abutment 4 is adjustably secured on the spindle 1 and the conical mounting 8 for the annular spring 10 is connected by a spring 7 with a ring 5 adjustably fixed to the spindle. The cop tube 12 is placed on a sleeve 11 slidable on the spindle and having a recess 19 in its end formed with a shoulder 20 for co-operation with friction balls 18 located in recesses in the wall of the hollow end 13 of the spindle. A pin 15 slidable in a plug 14 in the end of the spindle has a conical head 17 for engaging the balls 18 with a spring 21 located between the head 17 and plug 14 and when the tube 12 is to be clamped on the spindle, a socket 22 surrounding the pin 15 and engaging the end of the sleeve 11 is pushed to move the sleeve inwards and move the spring 10 along the conical surface of the mounting 8 to clamp the tube ; the sleeve and mounting then move inwards until the end of the tube engages the abutment 4 while the balls 18 are forced outwards by the head 17 of the pin 15 to engage the shoulder 20 and are held in locking engagement therewith by the spring 21. When the cop tube is full it can be removed from the spindle by pulling the pin 15 outwards to release the balls 18 and allow the sleeve 11 to move outwards, the spring 10 following the sleeve and releasing the cop tube. In another form, Fig. 3, the spindle 25 is provided with a fixed abutment 26 and three slidable mountings 29, 33, 37 for annular springs 31, 35, 39 which are disposed on the conical faces of the mountings and rest against faces 32, 36, 40 of the abutment and mountings 29, 33 respectively. The mounting 37 is controlled by a spring 41 disposed in a recess in the mounting and bearing against a head 42 on the spindle and is moved against the action of the spring, to allow a tube to be removed from the spindle, by rods 43 on a plate 44 slidable on the spindle and actuated from a bar 47 so that the annular springs move down the conical faces of the mountings and out of engagement with the inner surface of the cop tube. A fresh tube can then be slid over the mountings with its end engaging the abutment 26 and the bar 47 is then moved to release the mounting 37 when the latter is moved by the spring 41 to expand the annular spring 39 against the inner surface of the cop tube and the spring 39, bearing against the face 40, moves the mounting 33 with consequent similar movement of the mounting 29 to cause the springs 35, 31 to become expanded against the inner surface of the cop tube and secure it on the spindle.
