Abstract

492,430. Cop tubes or pirns. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Dec. 6, 1937, No. 33693. Convention date, Dec. 11, 1936. [Class 120 (iii)] A member for attachment to a cop tube or pirn, so that the latter may be employed in automatic looms normally employing quills, comprises a base 5, a hollow expansible stem 8 on the base, and screwoperated means for expanding the stem into engagement with the inner wall of the cop tube 1 so as to lock the latter in position on the base. The base has a recess 6 to accommodate the flange 3 of the cop tube and a recess 18 to accommodate the winding head 16 of the screw 12 which has a spindle 13 carrying the means far expanding the stem. As shown the bore of the stem tapers towards the base and the spindle carries a ball 14 which expands the stem as it is drawn towards the base. The bore of the stem may taper away from the base and the spindle have a conical end which expands the stem as the spindle is moved away from the base.
