Abstract

502,744. Winding thread. HAMEL, E. Sept. 24, 1937, No. 25953. [Class 120 (ii)] A traverse drum for cross spooling machines is provided with a single groove the depth of which gradually decreases from a minimum at the two turning points of the groove to a maximum between these points ; in this way the length of thread, extending from the guide through which the thread passes into the drum to the point at which it meets the package, is maintained constant and the thread has no tendency to leave the groove. As shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the bottom of the groove 2 in the drum 1 lies on a curve approximately in the form of an oval or ellipse the maximum diameter of which is on the line joining the turning points 2<1> of the groove, and the length of thread H D C from the guide H to the package P in the position of the drum shown - in Figs. 1 and 2 is the same as the length H F G from the guide to the package in the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4.
