Abstract

594,380. Bobbins. NICHOLSON, C. June 27, 1945, No. 16422. [Class 120 (iii)] A bobbin, spool or the like for carrying yarn comprises a light alloy tube, the ends of which are free from serrations, and metal end plugs, with or without flanges of greater diameter than the tube, which are accurately die-cast to fit in the ends of the tube and are press fitted therein. In one form, Fig. 1, the plug-like portion b of each die-cast ribbed flange a fits tightly inside tube c, the ends of which fit into annular recesses f in the flanges. The flanges are further secured by pressing the metal of the tube into dimples e or 'annular recesses in the plug surfaces. In an alternative, flangeless, form, Fig. 7, a spindle i is secured to the end plugs b which are shouldered at h to abut against the ends of tube c, both plugs and tube being perforated to assist liquid or other treatment of the yarn. A singler-flanged and a further -double-flanged form are shown also. The tube may be grooved externally to facilitate the cutting therefrom of spoilt yarn.
