Abstract

143,389. Carpenter, A. May 21, 1919. Bobbins, spools, &c. - Metal bobbins for the reception of paper tubes are made with a split barrel so that they may be expanded or controlled so as properly to fit the tube. The tube T is provided with one slot T' extending its entire length, and with one or more other slots T<2> extending for a portion of its length. At one end of the barrel is provided a flange F which may be provided with driving-lugs F<2> and has a boss F<3> to which the barrel is secured by friction, screwing, riveting, welding, &c. The other end of the barrel may be provided with a removable flange, the boss of which is split so as to be springy like the barrel.
