Abstract
435,025. Discharge lamps. FREEDMAN, P., 6, Hillside Gardens, Highgate, London. Aug. 18, 1934, No. 20856/33. [Class 39 (i)] A metallic vapour or gaseous discharge lamp 4 with cold internal electrodes 5 and a luminous column much greater in length than in cross section is operated simultaneously on highfrequency current 8 and ordinary household direct-current or alternating low-frequency current supply 6. The current from either source may be modulated. According to modifications the lamp has three, Fig. 2 (not shown), or four electrodes, Fig. 3, (not shown). The electrodes are cylindrical and of iron, preferably oxidized, nickel, cobalt, or an alloy of those metals with barium, calcium or strontium, or a block of calcium or magnesium in a gauze of iron, nickel, or copper, or a metal coated with barium or strontium oxides. The lamp is filled with neon, helium, or argon, or a mixture with small additions of hydrogen, or hydrocarbon vapour. Mercury, cadmium, or sodium, or thallium chloride or titanium chloride may be introduced. Specification 417,855 is referred to.
