Abstract
433,127. Pot furnaces for melting metals &c. SOUTH METROPOLITAN GAS CO., CHANDLER, D., and SKINNER, A. J., 709, Old Kent Road, London. Feb. 2, 1934, No. 3556. [Class 51 (ii)] In a gas-fired furnace for melting metals or heating liquids of the kind in which flames and hot gases from burners 10, after passing upwardly around the pot 1, escape through a chamber 6 to down flues 7 having outlets 8 at their lower ends, the inner face of the refractory wall 3 is lined with cast-iron plates 2 which are spaced from the wall by ribs 4 and have vertical ribs on their inner faces to divide the heating space 1<1> into separate passages. Below the pot 1 are provided further linerplates 13 having upstanding ribs 13<1> which serve to support the pot and to provide preheating passages for combustion air passing from the inlet flues 11 to the lower end of the heating space 1<1>. The burners 10 are of the luminous flame type, gas only being delivered through the supply pipes 9.
