Abstract
432,788. Change speed gearing. HUMBER, Ltd., and HEYNES, W. M., Stoke, Coventry. April 10, 1935, No. 11104. [Class 80 (ii)] A layshaft type of gear-box with four forward speeds introduced by two double-acting synchronizing devices A, B has a bearing 14 for the driven shaft 16 between the devices A and B and a gear-wheel 17 for reversed driving on the shaft 16 and against the bearing 14. The bearing 14 is carried by a web 15 supported from the sides of the gear casing. A reversing idler 20 when not in use lies partly underneath the bearing 14. This idler when in use connects the wheel 17 to a pinion 18 on the lay shaft. The synchronizing clutches A, B are the same as described in Specification 421,864 except that the slipping connection between the claw clutch member 11 and the friction clutch member 12 is a ' circlip ' 13 instead of a spring-pressed ball.
