Abstract
431,919. Hose couplings. CARPENTER, G., and ELECTRIC HOSE & RUBBER CO., Ltd., 198, Westminster Bridge Road, London. Jan. 29, 1935, No. 2906. [Class 99 (i)] A hose x with metal reinforcement x<2> is coupled to an end fitting b by a plurality of deformable rings c, Fig. 4, which are located between the hose and an enlarged sleeve portion b<2> of the end fitting and are contracted to bite into the hose and compress it onto a spigot a of said end fitting by reducing the diameter of the sleeve b<2> by a pressing or drawing operation. The end of the hose is adapted to seat against a shoulder b<3> in the end fitting, and the end of the hose covering is removed to accommodate the rings c ; further the sleeve b<2> is provided internally with circumferential grooves b<5>. In a modification, the rings c are replaced by a ferrule, Fig. 5, which is formed internally with circumferential ridges &c. c<5> and is screwthreaded externally to engage a corresponding thread in the sleeve b<2>.
