Abstract
462,471. Pipe joints. LAUER, R. L. Sept. 14, 1935, No. 25583. [Class 99 (i)] In a spigot-and-socket joint in which a wire or key 9, Fig. 2, is inserted through an opening in the socket into aligned annular grooves in the spigot and socket, the wire has a tapered head 11 which is wedged in the grooves and opening. Two pipes may be joined by a sleeve 60, Fig. 11, and keys 61, 62, the bevelled pipe ends seating on a gasket 64. In a modification, the key 23, Fig. 4, engages a groove in the socket only and wedges a ring 17 between socket and spigot. The head of the key may have a projection 75, Fig. 12, which engages a hole in the spigot when the head is hammered over after wedging. In jointing a tube to a plate 25, Fig. 6, the tube is keyed to a slotted ferrule 27. In another method of jointing a tube to a plate, the key 9a, Fig. 7, has a wedge portion 11a engaged in an opening in the flanged ferrule 38 and an enlarged head 11b which binds against the plate 35.
