[Class 146 (iii)] [See also Groups XVII and XXV] The pencil described in Specification 382,121 is provided with a second element, such as an eraser, a pastel, or a lip stick, also movable within the pencil barrel, and adapted to be clamped in any desired position with respect to the pencil barrel and to protrude from the open barrel end at the end opposite to the lead. The pencil comprises, as heretofore, a slotted barrel 2, Fig. 6, on which slides a ring 3 which serves to project and clamp the lead-carrier 8, Fig. 8. To the rear end of the lead-carrier 8 is fixed the second element 18, which is held in a socket member 14<1> screwed to or integral with a pin 13<11> fixed to the lead-carrier 8. The eraser or other element 18 is projected and clamped by the ring 3 which operates simultaneously to retract the lead 4. The band 6 which serves as the clamping-member is attached to the lead-carrier 8 by forming the central part of the band in sections and folding and pressing over these sections to clamp the lead-carrier, and in this construction, the lead-carrier and the tube 13<11> to which the holder for the element 18 is attached may be formed integrally. The slot of the barrel 2 is maintained open at its rear end when the cap 19 is fixed thereon by providing on the cap 19, or on the ring 20 of the clip 21, a projection adapted to fit into the slot ; when provided on the ring 20, the projection is diametrically opposite the clip.
