Class 146(3) A writing instrument of the kind comprising a tubular holder a containing two or more retractable writing elements which may be pencils, or, as shown, reservoir pens 7, is characterized in that the elements are mounted in parallel relationship within a sliding member b displaceable in unison from a retractable position to a position in which the writing tips can be used, the holder having for this purpose an opening 8 at its writing end which is large enough to allow simultaneous passage therethrough of all the tips. As shown, the sliding member b is operative, to project the pens 7, by a knob 1 against the action of a spring 3, the sliding member b being retained in projected position by a stud 4 on the member 6 engaging a slot 5 in the holder a, the stud being releasable by a projection 6 on a pocket clip.
